How to explain Photoshop Action Scripts without causing nasal hemorrhage to your readers

Photoshop Action scripts are the not-so-geeky stuff that you make so you won’t have to repeat the same procedures again and again for multiple images. For example, you have four (4) photos and you want to put the same water mark on each of the photos, you could use Action Script functions to record all the actions or process you will make on the first photo and apply the same actions on the remaining ones without having to repeat all the actions from step 1.

Did that made your nose bleed? If yes, I will elaborate my example.

I have 4 photos (Photo A, B, C and D). I want to upload these five photos on my photoblog but first, I want to place a watermark on each of them.

In order to place a watermark on a photo, I have to (1) open the image in Photoshop, (2) resize the image so it could fit my photoblog width and height settings, (3) create a text layer on top of the photo layer, (4) position the text layer on the top right corner of the image, (5) reduce the transparency of the text layer so it will look more like a watermark, (6) rotate the text layer 90° counter-clockwise and (7) export the image to a suitable .JPG file.

But that’s only for my photo A. I still have to repeat those six actions for my photos B, C and D. Totally I have to do 28 actions (excluding the closing of files, etc.) but if I will use Adobe Action Script function to record all the actions I made for photo A, I could easily apply the entire process on photos B, C, D and E by just clicking the PLAY button.

On the next post, I will teach you how to actually record your actions and save it into an Adobe Action Script file.

This is a part of my Adobe Photoshop Action Script tutorial series:
